18 Star Players Who Absolutely Hated Their Coaches

The relationship between a coach and a player is interesting, to say the least. Some combinations are flawless from the start like Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich, whereas others may be a little more volatile.

Even a player and coach relationship like Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, that seemed rock solid for nearly two decades, became less solid this off-season with Brady's move to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If that relationship is flawed, no player to coach relationship is safe.

And while there has almost certainly been more positive player and coach relationships over the years, today's focus is on the negatives. These 18 players wanted nothing to do with their respective coaches and the feelings remain the same to this day.

18 Randy Moss: Hated Brad Childress

In 2010, the Minnesota Vikings brought in Randy Moss in hopes of turning their team around. In an interview with NFL.com in 2011, Childress said that Randy Moss 'vomited on the locker room', ruining the team's chemistry. Additionally, Moss reportedly told the Vikings owner to fire Childress just 24 hours before Moss was released from the team.

17 Patrick Roy: Hated Mario Tremblay

After allowing 9 goals in a game against the Detroit Red Wings in 1995, Patrick Roy was humiliated and furious with head coach Mario Tremblay for keeping him in net for so long. After that game, Patrick Roy requested a trade as he deemed his relationship with Tremblay to be irreparable.

16 Terrell Owens: Hated Steve Mariucci

The Terrell Owens and Steve Mariucci beef began after Owens scored a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys and celebrated in a way that started a brawl between the two teams. Mariucci suspended Owens for his actions and Owens felt slighted by this. Thus, began a hatred that still remains to this day.

15 DeMarcus Cousins: Hated George Karl

George Karl only coached cousins for roughly a season and a half, however, it was a season and a half full of tension. The tension peaked after a loss to the Spurs when Cousins stormed into the locker room and cursed out Karl. This is just one of the many altercations between the two that eventually led to them leaving the franchise.

14 Keyshawn Johnson: Hated Jon Gruden

Keyshawn Johnson would never shy away from speaking his mind. In 2003 however, head coach Jon Gruden got tired of Johnson's never ending banter and deactivated him, thus preventing Johnson from signing with another team that season. This was all the fuel Johnson needed to spark an endless beef between him and Gruden.

13 Shaquille O'Neal: Hated Stan Van Gundy

For some reason, Shaquille O'Neal never respected his Miami Heat head coach Stan Van Gundy. He would make fun of him by referring to him as Ron Jeremy (a famous porn star). While Shaq was seemingly just making jokes at Van Gundy's expense, supposedly there was more behind the jokes then he let on. The jokes were made out of pure disrespect and a relative hatred for Van Gundy.

12 Allen Iverson: Hated Larry Brown

Allen Iverson's hatred for his Philadelphia 76ers head coach Larry Brown can be summed up with one word. Practice? That's right, Iverson's infamous "Practice" speech was sparked by his discontent his head coach Larry Brown. The two often feuded over what Brown believed to be inappropriate behaviour by Iverson, however, Iverson obviously felt otherwise.

11 Rajon Rondo: Hated Rick Carlisle

Rajon Rondo played just half a season for the Dallas Mavericks and head coach Rick Carlise, however, it was a very contentious half-season. Rondo butted heads with Carlise almost immediately upon his arrival to Dallas. The feud peaked when Rondo got into a verbal altercation with Carlise during a timeout against the Toronto Raptors. This led to Rondo receiving a suspension and eventually leaving the team.

10 Antonio Brown: Hated Mike Tomlin

Antonio Brown is an interesting person who seems to butt heads with someone everywhere he goes. His weird string of altercations began in his last season with the Steelers where for some reason he stopped getting along with head coach Mike Tomlin. It's difficult to understand why Brown gets into these situations but he will forever be an interesting character.

9 Kenyon Martin: Hated George Karl

Yet another player that isn't the biggest fan of George Karl. Something tells me Kenyon Martin and DeMarcus Cousins weren't the problem. Regardless, Martin's hatred for Karl began because he believed that while George Karl may know basketball, he wasn't a good coach. Martin believed that Karl was a poor communicator and had bad relationships with all of his players. Martin may have been onto something.

8 Jay Cutler: Hated Josh McDaniels

Josh McDaniels only coached the Denver Broncos for 28 games and that was all the time Jay Cutler needed to develop his feeling of hatred towards McDaniels. The hatred began when McDaniels was exploring trade options for Cutler, something that obviously rubbed Cutler the wrong way. This beef eventually forced the Broncos to trade Cutler to the Bears, however, they also ended up firing McDaniels not even two years later.

7 Alex Rodriguez: Hated Joe Torre

The beef between Alex Rodriguez and Joe Torre began immediately after Rodriguez signed with the New York Yankees. Torre felt as though Rodriguez craved attention and was a problem in the locker room. Rodriguez obviously felt slighted by Torre's assumptions about him which led to a hatred that still remains for Alex Rodriguez.

6 Neil Reed: Hated Bob Knight

Neil Reed certainly isn't the only player to have distain for Indiana University head coach Bob Knight. Knight is known for his temper while on the sideline and it is exemplified by the time he literally choked one of his players. That player was Neil Reed. It's safe to say, Neil Reed has a pretty good reason to hate Bob Knight.

5 Gary Payton: Hated Paul Westphal

Gary Payton is far from the biggest fan of Paul Westphal. His hatred began when the team put Payton's good friend and teammate Vin Baker on the block without telling him. This led to Payton treating basketball as a business, just like the team was, and that meant he had no time for a guy like Paul Westphal. Shortly after, Westphal was fired.

4 David Beckham: Hated Alex Ferguson

David Beckham clearly never liked his Manchester United head coach Alex Ferguson. This dislike reached it's peak when Ferguson famously kicked a boot at Beckham which left him with a cut above his eye. This is a pretty clear cause of Beckham's hatred for Ferguson and led to a relationship that may have been irreparable.

3 Alexander Ovechkin: Hated John Tortorella (And He Wasn't Even His Coach!)

John Tortorella isn't liked by many people in the hockey world it seems, however, he is absolutely hated by one of his greatest opponents... Alexander Ovechkin. In a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Alexander Ovechkin and the Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella got into a verbal exchange. This led to Ovechkin sarcastically calling Tortorella a "nice guy" after the game.

2 Jeff Hostetler: Hated Bill Parcells

Jeff Hostetler had likely the most relatable issues with New York Giants head coach Bill Parcells. Hostetler was simply upset with his coach due to his lack of playing time. This led to Hostetler really disliking Parcells, requesting trades, threatening to retire and even offering to play other positions including wide-receiver and even punt blocker.

1 Latrell Sprewell: Hated P.J. Carlesimo

Probably the most infamous player and coach feud was Latrell Sprewell's hatred for his Golden State Warriors head coach P.J. Carlesimo. Carlesimo only coached Sprewell for one season before the Warriors traded him to the Knicks, however, that was quite a contentious season. Sprewell's hatred for Carlesimo can be summed up with the time that he famously choked his coach. That was quite a wild season.
