Spears took to Instagram on Thursday, sharing a series of video clips that showed off her dance moves. The three videos showed glimpses of her recent countryside drive, showcasing her choreography to tunes like "Back In Black" by Amy Winehouse and "S.O.S." by Indila.
Among these posts, however, was a concerning sight, as the singer appeared to be using her phone while driving a car.
The videos featured Britney dressed in a gold choker, a patterned tube top, black Nike shorts, and black boots, while she wore her wavy blonde locks flowing freely. In one clip, she dropped the camera while capturing the trees lining a woodsy road she walking along.
Another clip depicted the green countryside juxtaposed against the ocean, with construction trailers, road signs, and passing vehicles dotting the landscape. But with concern that Britney was holding the camera while also being responsible for the wheel, it’s led to concern amongst fans and the media over her behavior.
Britney’s Driving Has Gotten Her In Trouble Multiple Times Recently
In California, it is illegal to use a cellphone while driving, unless it is being used in a hands-free manner. The law prohibits holding a phone while behind the wheel for any reason, including talking, texting, or browsing the internet.
Violations of this law can result in fines starting at $20 for the first offense and $50 for subsequent violations, with additional fees added to the fine amount. Moreover, repeat offenders may face points on their driving record, potentially leading to increased insurance rates and license suspension.
What Happened Between Britney Spears And Selena Gomez?
Although Gomez was a guest at Spears' wedding, many believed Spears shaded the singer on Instagram.The law aims to reduce distracted driving incidents and improve road safety throughout the state. Even if Britney had her cell phone mounted on something while filming and driving, she still would’ve needed to look at and touch the screen to begin and end the clip, thereby committing a clear infraction while driving.
For now, however, it doesn’t appear that Britney has faced any consequences for the seemingly illegal move. It’s also unconfirmed if she was in California, where she primarily resides, or was somewhere else while filming the clips.
Britney’s recent blunder comes a few months after she was pulled over for speeding in October, for which she explained was necessary since she needed to go home quickly to use the bathroom. Only the month prior, in September, Britney had been issued a fine for not having a license or proof of insurance after going under for being under the speed limit.
Britney’s other erratic behavior includes a variety of questionable videos posted online, including one of her dancing with knives (which later sparked a police visit to her home – and not the first one, reports indicated) as well as a more recent clip of her seeming to smoke while showing her dance moves and teasing fans.
Britney hasn’t commented on the controversy over her recent IG posts.
