Dan Whitlam and Emma Mackey's relationship began in 2018, or at least in January 2018, when they first became Instagram official (a milestone that suggests the seriousness of a relationship for many modern couples).
Mackey has made a point of protecting her relationships by not oversharing -- and she's not the only celeb who is notoriously private, just like Ben Stiller and his wife. In 2021 she made the decision to delete her Instagram account. She also spoke to Elle magazine that same year, telling the publication how the attention that comes with her success has been challenging.

"I think that's why I have spoken quite vociferously about Instagram and social media and all that, because I think it just doesn't correlate with who I am," she explained. "I don't really see why [the world should follow] someone like me, who just wants a simple life — which is hilarious because I don't really think I’ve chosen the right job for it. [Laughs]"
Mackey continued, "I'm sure [the attention] can bring some benefits to some people, but I don't think it works for me. It brings me a tremendous amount of anxiety and discomfort. I'm very lucky to do my job, and I know that it's now a part of the job to do that kind of stuff, but it doesn't have to be. I want to be able to make a choice on that matter."
At the beginning of 2023, Mackey once again discussed her decision to take a break from social media. In an interview with Stylist, she was asked what she does as an actor, to which she responded, "Overthink everything."
Emma Mackey continued, "I'm now in the phase of my life where I'm trying to figure out what my taste is and be really precise about the kinds of projects I do. It's really important to figure out your taste, and no one tells you to do it. I haven't had any social media for six months, which has done wonders for me; I highly recommend it."
While this does not confirm her relationship status, it does send a message to the world that she is not one who plans to share her personal life with the public any time soon.
What Does Dan Whitlam's Instagram Suggest About His Dating Life?
Dan Whitlam does not have the same star status as Emma Mackey, but that does not mean he is not successful. Instead of doing television or film work, much of his career has been focused on stage productions.
Like Mackey, he is exceptionally private about his life. He still has Instagram, but there are no recent photos of them together, and the most recent dates back to 2019. Dan Whitlam also uses his social media as a way to share his poetry, and he is skilled with written verse. His most recent post titled "Juliette" seems to allude to a breakup, although not necessarily his own, as both people in his narrative are married. Another post titled "Quick Intimacy" discusses how he wants a lasting romance and not something fleeting.
There are several posts that touch on relationships, but it is hard to determine how much has been inspired by his personal life and, more specifically, his relationship with Mackey.
As for when they broke up? There does not appear to be a clear timeline for these events, although Nicki Swift notes that the last time they were seen together in public was when they attended the Cannes International Series Festival in 2019. Who Is Emma Mackey Dating Now?
For those keeping up with Emma Mackey and Dan Whitlam, it is evident they are no longer in a relationship. And it's unlikely the actress is still grieving the end of their coupling. Why? Because if reports are to be believed, then she already has a new boyfriend, and when she attended the BAFTA awards in February 2023, he joined her.
The man in question is reported to be photographer and film director Martin Aleman, and Mackey's representative confirmed the news to Bustle. The publication also notes how Aleman had previously photographed Mackey for a 2022 interview for Flaunt magazine (although it is not immediately clear if this was their first meeting).
Red carpet outings between new celebrity couples are always a thing of excitement. Fans may get to see a lot more of these two (if Mackey decides she's comfortable with that) because she is continuing to land projects, and her star is on the rise (plus, she is often compared to Margot Robbie because of her beauty).
Speaking of the projects she chooses and her thought process regarding each one, she told Harper's Bazaar she has no "prerequisites" when it comes to choosing.
"Now, I just try to be as precise as possible," she adds.
"I feel lucky when I read a script that makes me feel something. It's really hard to find a script that ticks all the boxes, so to speak. I don't even know what those boxes are, but it's more of a feeling. When I read a script, I know in my heart or in my bones that it's the kind of thing I would love to do and that I would fight for. There are films that you get offered, and it's an amazing thing, and you feel really lucky. But then, there are films where you have to really fight, and you have to audition for them, and you have to prove that you can do that — that you can play that part and show that range. I'm seeking those out more, cause I feel like I have a lot more to prove. It's exciting ..."
