In 2021, Drake Bell pleaded guilty to child endangerment, following a disturbing case during which he faced very serious allegations, but despite his plea, the actor has continuously denied the accusations. Recently, he opened up about why he had chosen to plead guilty despite maintaining his innocence.

"I responded on some DMs and was incredibly irresponsible and got myself into conversations that I shouldn’t have had," he said about it. "I ended up finding out that I was talking to someone that I shouldn’t have been talking to, and it snowballed into these allegations that were not true, and it just turned into this big thing."

He is referring to the accusations that he had groomed a teenager and later assaulted her at one of his concerts, but he maintains that he didn't know she was a minor and cut communication as soon as he found out.

"[I] ended up pleading guilty, because financially I was just devastated, and I had just had a son and I didn’t want to put my family through all of this anymore," Drake Bell explained. Now, in hindsight, he's not sure if it was the right choice. "I ended up going through the process the way that I did. Very regretful."

Drake Bell has had a tough few months, as he's had to relive a horrifying experience he suffered in his childhood. When he was working on Nickelodeon, he was sexually abused by coach Brian Peck. The actor's family reported the coach, who was convicted, but while he was a minor, Drake Bell kept his identity secret. He only just revealed himself as the victim in an episode of Quiet of Set in a heartbreaking testimony that shook viewers.

When he spoke about the charges against him, he said that "A lot of the things she [the person who accused him] said about sending inappropriate pictures and things like this, it was able to be investigated and show that none of that existed," but he "have those conversations" with her when he allegedly didn't know she was a minor, and "took responsibility for that."

Drake Bell seemingly referenced his history with abuse to explain the way he dealt with the allegations against him.

"There’s just so much that I’ve had to deal with, and through that, like I said, not having the tools or not knowing how to process things, I made a lot of decisions in my life that I shouldn’t have made and hurt a lot of people," he acknowledged.

"But now, where I am in my life now, I think that I’m finally at a place where I can process and deal with this through therapy that I’ve been through and actively going through, unearthing all of these things and being able to face them head on for really the first time in my life."
