"My marriage ending blew my mind. I was upset that I failed and let down my family, my kids, my ex-wife. It was all very painful."
Ultimately, therapy helped the radio host.
"I was totally neurotic... I knew things weren't right, and I said, 'Gee, where am I going to get some answers?' I had never been a guy to turn to religion but then as my marriage was coming to an end, I needed help to explain it to my children and make sense of it all... Because once you are a divorced guy, being a father is a whole different thing."
Stern admits things are a lot easier in his relationship today, but understands how easily things can turn.
"In many ways, my marriage now is so easy, but I'm also aware that I could f*** things up very easily. I could start getting more into my work, and ignoring what's important to Beth. I'm awfully narcissistic, and I have to keep that in check. I can't be like King Tut sitting there and expect to be taken care of, because so many times we can turn our wives into mothers."
Stern and Beth have been together since 2008.
