Tons of '90s kids grew up watching (and re-watching) the movie 'The Little Rascals.' The film, which played off of the themes of a 1920s-era TV series, had cute characters, kids doing big things, and fun storylines.
But all was not as it seemed, and adults who grew up watching the movies have some concerns these days. For one thing, the fact that 'Alfalfa' actor Brandon "Bug" Hall recently shared some concerning information from his days on set doesn't reflect well on the film's legacy...

Bug actually went public via YouTube to talk about his rough childhood, with a father who abused him and later wound up in prison.
The eight-year-old didn't have much of a reprieve, though, however much joy being a 'real actor' brought him. Bug recalled that shortly after he started working on the movie, two men from the crew starting acting inappropriately toward him. It went on for some time, and though Bug has great memories of being a child actor, he elaborated that those experiences were really a stain on his childhood.
Further, Hall explained that even at age eight, he realized that what happened to him was the result of someone not protecting him. And that's what fans find problematic about the film overall; there were members of the crew who weren't fit to work with children, and yet no one seemed to notice or address the issue.
Fortunately, Bug grew up with a healthy perspective on his past and moving forward with his future. He's also a dad these days. But less is known about some other stars, such as the girl who played Darla, Brittany Ashton Holmes.
Though little 'Darla' is all grown up now, she was only five when the film was made. Knowing what was happening to Bug behind the scenes, it's a bit iffy to fans that the main plot in 'The Little Rascals' centered on a love story between a five-year-old and an eight-year-old. For that matter, having a love story between two kids in the first place is a bit off-putting.
That said, there's no indication that anything untoward happened to any of the other child stars on set, though that doesn't mean nothing did. And the kids did seem to enjoy their 'work,' especially the then-precocious five-year-old Brittany. There are so many outtakes of her smiling at the camera that even Britney Spears commented on it (saying she was the same on Disney as a kid).
For anyone wondering where the rest of the 'The Little Rascals' cast wound up, not many of them stuck around in Hollywood. And maybe that was a good thing.
